I think I've been the busiest I've ever been in my life the past several weeks.
With the ending of the Box Tops for Education contest at school, I had contest reward parties to give for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contest winners in the Kindergarten through 3rd grade level, as well as the 4th through 6th grade level. I've given five of the six parties so far, four of those parties were on the same day as another. I had one teacher request her party for this last Wednesday, which was our last day of school, but she only gave me a days notice and I already had two other parties within a two hour time frame for that day. So that party will have to be given once we return to school at the end of the month. October 29th was my birthday. My Mom and I spent the morning together and then I had a party to give at school. That evening, my parents watched the girls while we went to dinner with friends. The next day, October 30th, was my Mom's birthday (I was my Mom's best birthday present in 1973! LOL). This year, my mom turned 60 and we celebrated by going out to dinner where Mom chose, Famous Dave's BBQ, and then back to the house for presents and cake and just spending time together. I wasn't really sure what to get my Mom for her birthday this year, I wanted it to be special, and different than the 'normal' birthday present. So I put together one of those picture books through Apple. I titled it "A Decade of Memories" and filled it with pictures of the granddaughters, family vacations together, special events, and some everyday good pictures. It was a huge hit! And my Mom really loved it! Following the week of our birthdays, the girls had two full days of school and then went on minimum days so that the teachers could hold Parent Conferences. So we've had parent conferences for both girls, a performance for Hannah that we saw not once, but twice (daytime dress rehearsal and evening performance), perfect attendance assemblies for both girls, and then helping the teacher in charge of that get things in order for that, etc. A little over a month ago, Steven and I went to the school district offices and previewed a movie that the 5th graders would be shown this year about puberty, etc. They showed that movie in school on Wednesday. So for the last month and even the night before, we'd been preparing Hannah for the movie and talking about the changes a girl goes through, etc. We didn't offer any information beyond what we thought she was ready for and would answer questions should she ask, but it wasn't until AFTER seeing the movie that she came home with a certain one question that led us to have the "birds and the bees" conversation. Our little girl isn't so little (or naive) any more. LOL. Here's a recent picture of her where she's sporting only mascara and lip gloss (it was performance night). Definitely turning into one beautiful young lady! School came to an end on Wednesday at 12:40 and we are now on our Fall break until the week after Thanksgiving. Usually the last day of school is one really looked forward to - as a break is always much needed from getting up and out the door every morning to school, homework in the afternoons, etc. But this time the last day of school was a bittersweet one. I'm happy to be having the break, but at the same time, not really ready to face what's coming Wednesday - Rachel's surgery. But on the bright side, this time next week, it'll all be done, and Lord willing we'll have already been home a night, and Rachel will already be on the mend! And then the next week is Thanksgiving and the dawning of the Christmas tree, etc. The holidays are upon us and it's my favorite time of the year, so I look forward to what the season holds for us.
Last Saturday, we had no place to be, no plans. We stayed home all day lounging about, conducting a Pirates of the Caribbean movie marathon (where #3 still needs to be watched) and doing laundry. It was nice to be home to get caught up on things. There's nothing on our calendar for tomorrow and I'm hoping tomorrow will be much like that of last Saturday, resting, being lazy, preparing for what the week ahead holds...
